So one of your Breasties has just had a gorgeous new baby.

Yay! Congrats!

This is such an exciting time, welcoming a new baby into the world. But it can also be stressful, exhausting, and overwhelming. Now that she’s had a baby, you’re probably desperate to head over for a visit and some snuggles, as well as looking for the perfect gift to bring them.

We get it. But we also know that this is a time when the new mama needs a lot more than she’ll ever let on. Sleep, a shower, a hot meal, and gifts that she can actually use. Even though that baby tutu or those mini Nike sneakers might look tempting, there are other gifts for new moms after birth that she’ll appreciate even more.

Check out our list for thoughtful, practical, and fun gifts so you’ll know exactly what to bring a new mom in your life.

Supporting the new mom in your life

The number one thing every new mama needs after giving birth is love and support.

She is going through so much after having a baby – recovering from the birth, adjusting to life with a newborn, sleep deprivation, leaky Boobies, hormones... and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

As much as everyone wants to stop by and visit the new baby and bring adorable gifts, this can be extremely overwhelming for a new mom. Entertaining guests shouldn’t be a priority right now.

Here’s a little checklist of things you shouldn’t do when visiting the new mama and baby:

  • Don’t offer advice unless you’re asked
  • Keep your visit short and don’t overstay your welcome
  • Don’t make comments about how tired she looks – tell her she looks beautiful
  • Don’t ask if the baby is sleeping well
  • Don’t ask to hold the little one – wait until the baby is offered to you for a snuggle

What she needs is love, support, care, and to be seen and understood. Knowing what to bring a new mom will help with this. From meals and nursing-friendly essentials to things new moms need for themselves, if you get the gift right, you’ll help your Breast Friend to get off to the best start.

What to bring a new mom

    Ok.

So, you’re all set to visit the new mama. You’ve arranged a suitable day and time to pop over, and now you just need to think of the perfect gift. You know. One she’ll actually appreciate and be able to use.

Never fear Breastie, Titty City Design is here to help! Check out our guide to the best gifts for new moms after birth.

      #1 All the food

A new mama barely has time to pee let alone cook a meal. And her partner will be busy looking after her and the baby so probably won’t have time to cook either.

And there are only so many times you can order takeout before getting sick of it!

One of the best things you can bring a new family is a meal… or several so they can freeze them and enjoy them later.

Arrange a “bring them a meal” schedule with other friends and family, so everyone knows what meals need brought and when. And don’t offer to bring food round – just do it. Chances are if you offer she’ll feel too awkward to say yes. If you’re preparing a homemade meal, take it over in disposable containers so she doesn’t have to do any washing up.

      #2 Her favorite drink

Whether it’s a frap, a grande skinny, hot tea, or a milkshake, treat your Breast Friend by dropping off her favorite drink.

She won’t have the time to pop out to Starbucks and grab it herself, so make her feel like herself again by placing her must-have drink and leaving it on her doorstep. Then send her a message to let her know it’s there waiting for her.

This is a guaranteed winner. And bonus points if you add a muffin or two with it.

#3 Something to make her smile

Life is so hard during the first weeks of postpartum. Her body is healing from giving birth, she's over-exhausted because she only gets a couple of hours to sleep at a time, and she is constantly keeping up with feedings.

We are not going to sugar coat it – being a new parent is rough. Honestly, it is still really hard at six months and even throughout the first year.

What we are getting at is: Mama could use a smile and reminder to know how amazing she is. A thoughtful gift just for her could help her get through a tough day (or night).

And what better gift than a Hot Tits Mug to make her smile when she pours her coffee at 5 am (and warms it up again at 8 am). This boob mug will remind her of her amazing milk makers generating countless ounces of breastmilk.

      #4 Breastfeeding-friendly gifts

If your Breastie is nursing then giving her a gift that’ll make feeding time easier will be so appreciated. Bonus points if it’s something personal that you know she’ll love.

Breastfeeding-friendly, comfy clothes are a great option, as it’s also a gift for her.

Look for comfy and cozy hoodies with a zip up front, to make whipping a Titty out fast and easy. Or a loose and cute sweater she can layer over a nursing top so she can use the two-shirt method.

      #4 An insulated tumbler

If the new mama is breastfeeding then she’ll be thirsty. Like, REALLY thirsty. When you nurse you’re hydrating yourself and your baby. Breastmilk is made of 90% water, so it’s super important for breastfeeding mamas to stay hydrated.

Bring your friend an insulated, large tumbler so they can enjoy hot and cold drinks kept at the perfect temperature. Even better if the tumbler has a lid and a straw so she can sip safely and avoid spilling when holding the baby.

      #5 Diapers and wipes

Even if your friend has stockpiled diapers and wipes for her little one this is a gift that’ll always be appreciated.

Create a diaper hamper and buy diapers a size bigger than newborn so she’ll have stock when her little chunky monkey is ready for the next size up. Add to the hamper wipes, diaper bags, diaper cream, muslin squares, and maybe a treat or two for her. Although this isn’t the most glamorous gift, it’s so helpful for new parents, and she’ll love you for it.

      #6 Easy-to-put-on onesies

Buying cute baby clothes and teeny outfits is so irresistible. But the truth is, for the first few months, that little bundle of joy will be wearing nothing but onesies.

Convenient, easy-to-put-on onesies are a must for every new parent. Bonus points if they have zip-up fastenings instead of poppers to make those middle-of-the-night changes easier.

Babies constantly need to be changed, so a bundle of these onesies will make the perfect gift. Go for a mix of sizes, from newborn up to six months so she’ll have options as the baby grows.

      #7 Skincare

After giving birth, a new mama’s skin can get very dry. Especially if she’s breastfeeding.

Treat your Breast Friend to a selection of gorgeous, pampering skincare goodies.

Opt for facial moisturizer, serum, and body lotion so she can feel her best. If she’s nursing, look for breastfeeding-friendly brands that’ll be safe to use. She’ll love how much you’re thinking about her and her needs, and enjoy a little self-care at the same time.

      #8 A massage gift certificate

This one will earn you major brownie points!

Everyone knows that a new mama has no time to herself and practicing self-care is pretty much impossible.

Show your friend how much you care about them by gifting them a post-partum massage. By giving them a gift certificate, they can choose which day they have the massage and it’ll give them something amazing to look forward to. Better yet, why not offer to babysit when she does book the massage? She’ll love you forever and you’ll get a couple of precious hours snuggling your new baby BFF.

      #9 Gifts for siblings

If your friend already has children, then having a new baby around could mean they’ll feel left out. Show your friend how much you care about her other kids by bringing round gifts for them when you pay a visit.

Choose toys or books you know they’ll love and watch their eyes light up as you shower attention and love on them. It’ll help alleviate some of the new baby mom guilt your friend might be feeling too!

      You rock Breast Friend

When a new baby arrives, it’s so important to show the mama as much love and attention as the baby. And if you’re reading this, it shows just how much you care for her and want to look after her. That makes you a superstar, and your thoughtfulness will mean the world to her.

Keep checking in on her to see how she is doing, text her words of encouragement, call her (and leave a voicemail) to tell her she is doing great, and offer any help you can. She may not respond right away, but she will see it and she will appreciate it more than you know!

We hope this list of what to bring a new mom will help you choose the perfect present. Have we left something out? Head over to the Titty City Design Instagram page and let us know what gift you were brought after you had a baby that you really appreciated.
